The Government established the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) to promote education in the Information Technology sector. These are some of the top Indian institutions for candidates seeking careers in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering. Since the first IIIT opened in 1997, IIITs have left a lasting influence on the industry by producing some of the nation’s top IT graduates. Some of the most renowned IT companies in the sector hire graduates from IIITs. IIITs are regarded as among the best colleges after the IITs and NITs. So, for students aspiring to take up careers in Information Technology and related fields, IIITs are definitely a good option that must be considered when selecting a college for further studies.
The first 5 IIITs among them are established, funded and managed by the Ministry of Education (MOE). The Ministry of Education founded the IIITs in Gwalior, Allahabad, Jabalpur, and Kancheepuram before 2014. As part of the requirement of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, the Ministry of Education established the fifth institute at Kurnool in 2015. Thereafter, 20 IIITs were subsequently set up as Public-Private Partnership (PPP) entities. In PPP IIITs, the Ministry of Education (MOE) represents the public partner, while the private partners in these institutions are often IT companies. Thus, typically the partner IT companies tend to recruit students from the IIITs in good numbers. Further, the backing of IT companies in these institutions allows for education that is expected to be of higher relevance to the rapidly changing industry needs. Considering all these factors, IIITs are definitely the institutes to be considered in the decision-making process of selecting the institute for IT-related courses.

IIIT Colleges in India 2022: Entrance Examinations
The applicants must pass specific entrance examinations to apply for various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by IIITs. Despite being independent, all IIITs are connected to one another by a single admissions procedure. JEE Mains is the examination used for admission to UG engineering programmes offered by IIITs. JEE-Main, conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), is the well-known examination used for admission to various IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.
JEE-Main has two parts – Paper I and Paper II. The two parts (I and II) are used for admissions to different courses. Paper I is used for admission to B.Tech/BE courses, and Paper II is used for admissions to B.Planning and B.Arch courses. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, JEE-Main had undergone changes in its format and the number of attempts allowed. Post-2020, JEE-Main has 20 questions that are single choice and 10 numerical questions. Only 5 out of 10 numerical questions must be attempted by the student. The scheme for marking has not undergone any changes in the recent past. Correct answers get +4 marks, and incorrect answers reduce the score by 1. Unanswered questions do not have any effect on the scores. The JEE-Main examination is held twice a year for admission to various IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs. Students looking to secure admission in the IIITs need to be updated on the latest rules and examination dates of JEE-Main.
