IIT Kanpur Admissions 2017 for PG courses

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur would start the application process in online mode for course programs like M.Des, MS (Research) and M.Tech and PhD for the session that would begin from the month of July.  This announcement has come right at the time of the GATE 2017 result declaration and aspirants who had scored the required marks could apply for research and post-graduate programs in this premier institute.  The applications for the same would be provided for non- sponsored and sponsored candidates.  Separate application forms would have to be filled by applicants if they would like to apply for more than one program.

Non-sponsored Candidates To Receive Financial Assistance

For students who are non-sponsored and pursuing regular courses like M.Des, M. Tech, MS (Research), PhD and M.Sc.-Ph.D. (Dual degree) programmes, there would be a financial aid (by way of Institute Assistantship).

Research assistantship and tutoring would be the major duties assigned to the students coming to this institute by this scheme. Presently, a monthly stipend of Rs. 12,400 is provided to the students enrolled in this institute for courses like M.Tech/MS (Research)/ M.Des for 8 working hours on a weekly basis.

For the first two years, Rs.25000 is provided to the PhD students and for the next two years Rs. 28,000 per month is allotted for the same. After the first semester, a tuition fee waiver of 50 per cent is given to students enrolled for the M.Sc.-PhD dual degree program. External funding agencies like CSIR, DIETY, INSPIRE, DBT, NBHM and UGC would also be providing financial assistance to the candidates.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational qualification:

For MTech programmes: Aspirants would have to possess a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science or a Master’s degree in science having marks, not below the specified minimum from an approved university.

For PhD programmes:  Aspirants would have to possess a Master’s degree in engineering with marks not below the specified minimum from an approved university.

Selection Procedure

For MTech programmes:  Selection of candidates would be based on GATE score or/interview or/written test.

PhD programmes: The candidate must have a GATE score that is valid or should have qualified for in JRF/NET.
