The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, which is the organizing institute for JEE Advanced 2016, has introduced a new dress code this year along with a list of prohibited items/barred items. The exam is scheduled on May 22nd, 2016 and all the students have to abide by the dress code before entering the exam centres for JEE Advanced 2016.
JEE Advanced 2016 – List of barred items
- Students are restricted to wear full sleeves shirts and kurtas
- Brooches and heavy jewellery are not allowed
- Shoes and high heels are not allowed
- Watches and writing pad
The candidates are also asked to cooperate with physical frisking at the exam centres.
IIT aspirants are not complaining much about wearing sleeveless shirts and T-shirts or even sandals and slippers, the biggest inconvenience for many could be the ban on wristwatches and writing pads.
Invigilators are introduced to announce the time after every half an hour during the examination.
Since many students normally have a habit of looking at the watch while taking the next question, but now they will not be allowed to take even manual watches in the exam hall of one of the biggest competitive exams, which may add to exam stress.
It’s good that IITs have made such a decision to ensure that good students don’t lose merit seats due to malpractices. However, IIT needs to revise their norms by at least allowing the students to carry wrist watches inside or make sure that all the wall clocks in the centres are functioning well as per GMT. Instead of writing pads, students should be allowed to carry at least transparent pads in the exam hall.
