MCI Directs Cancellation of 500 Admissions in Medical Colleges

This year, approximately around 500 students might lose their chance to gain admission for medical courses owing to the fact that they had not appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam last year. Admissions provided to these students by certain private colleges have to be canceled as per the orders of the Medical Council of India. As per the words of an MCI official, these admissions have been suspected to be granted in a backdoor manner by taking capitation fees from states already opted for the entrance test earlier.

As per the words of the MCI Secretary above 17 private institutes in Uttar Pradesh have been asked by the council to annul admissions granted to above 400 students. Similarly, private medical institutes in  Tamil Nadu has been asked  by a discharge notice to scrap the admissions granted to around 36 students since they had violated the norms  approved by the MCI

Earlier, the central government had given the option to the states on whether to conduct their own entrance exams or opt for NEET exam to grant admissions in medical colleges across the country.

The committee is currently cross checking the admissions in medical colleges across the country to figure out how many candidates have gained admission to the courses without writing the entrance test precisely.

Like the MCI, the Dental Council of India is having a look at the admission procedure of colleges registered under them.

There have been allegations regarding illegal admissions to certain dental colleges in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
