Karnataka Board Cancels Exams For Classes 7, 8 and 9

In a major decision taken on 2 April 2020, the Karnataka Government announced plans to cancel the exams for Classes 7, 8 and 9, owing to the Coronavirus outbreak and the lockdown that followed. These exams were earlier scheduled to be conducted on 14 April 2020. Meanwhile, the State Government is expected to officially announce the revised time table for Class 10, post 14 April 2020.

In lieu of the vast spread of the virus and the Karnataka Government’s attempts to contain it, the Department of Public Instructions announced that the students of Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board(KSEEB) Class 7, 8 and 9 will be promoted to the higher classes on the basis of the summative and the formative assessment evaluation report.

The Primary and Secondary Education Minister, S Suresh Kumar while briefing the students, parents and teachers through a video message also stated that, “If any student fails to clear this internal process, the school will utilise the present vacation period for providing remedial intervention.” He, then added, “The children will be promoted without exams and all students of 7th and 8th standard will be promoted without conditions. The 9th standard students will also be promoted based on the summative and formative assessment evaluation conducted at the school level itself.”

In the meantime, a fresh KSEEB Date-Sheet is expected to be released for SSLC exams after 14 April 2020. The decision to hold the exams for KSEEB 2nd PUC students is also expected to be taken after 14 April 2020.
