Tips to Memorise 17 Table

  • Students can memorise the table of 17, if they already know table of 16.
  • To each multiple of 16, we need to add the consecutive natural numbers, to get respective multiples of 17.
Table of 16 Adding Natural numbers 1 to 10 Table of 17
16 × 1 = 16 16 + 1 17
16 × 2 = 32 32 + 2 34
16 × 3 = 48 48 + 3 51
16 × 4 = 64 64 + 4  68
16 × 5 = 80 80 + 5 85
16  × 6 = 96 96 + 6 102
16  × 7 = 112 112 + 7 119
16 × 8 = 128 128 + 8 136
16 × 9 = 144 144 + 9 153
16  ×10 = 160 160 + 10 170

Solved Examples on Table of 17

Example 1: What is 17 times 5 plus 120 equals to?

Solution: 17 times 5 plus 120

= 17 x 5 + 120

= 85 + 120

= 205

Example 2: Frank brings 5 pens for Rs.17 each. What is the total amount he paid for pens?

Solution: Cost of each pen = Rs.17

Cost of 5 pens = 17 x 5 = Rs. 85

Example 3: Find 17 x 8 – 17 x 3 = ?

Solution: 17 x 8 – 17 x 3

From the table of 17, we can write the given expression as:

= 136 – 51

= 85

Another method:

17 x 8 – 17 x 3

Take 17 common;

= 17 x (8 – 3)    [By distributive property]

= 17 x 5

= 85

Example 4: By making use of table 17, find the number of times 17 should be multiplied to obtain 238.

Answer:

From the table of 17, 17 * 14 = 238

So, 17 times 14 results in 238.

Example 5: By making use of table 17, solve the following.

a] 17 times 8 times 9

b] 17 times 7 minus 5

Answer:

a] 17 times 8 times 9

Write 17 times 8 times 9 mathematically,

17 times 8 times 9 = (17 * 8 * 9)

= 1224

17 times 8 times 9 = 1224

b] 17 times 7 minus 5

Write 17 times 7 minus 5 mathematically,

17 times 7 minus 5 = (17 * 7) – 5

= 119 – 5

= 114

17 times 7 minus 5 = 114

Example 6: Rohan has a collection of some trophies from seventeen different cities. From every city, he possesses 7 trophies. By making use of table 17, what is the count of trophies does he have?

Answer:

Total count of trophies Rohan has from every city = 7

Total count of cities = 17

Using the table of 17, the total count of trophies

= 17 times 7

On writing it mathematically,

17 * 7 = 119
