Solution
Seed:
It is a mature ovule with an embryo and food reserves, all enclosed in a protective seed coat.
Seeds are produced by angiosperms and gymnosperms.
They can be either homosporous or heterosporous.
Spores:
They are single-celled reproductive structures produced by bacteria, certain fungi, and plants (ferns and moss).
They greatly resist extreme environmental conditions, like high temperature, salinity, pH, etc.
Homosporous plants:
Plants that produce one type and one size of spore that further develops into a gametophyte (n).
They have both female and male organs.
Example- Pteridophytes (seedless plants) like
Whisk Fern, Dicksonia, Selaginella, etc.
However, some pteridophytes are heterosporous.
Heterosporous plants:
Plants that produce two kinds of spores- male microspore and female megaspore.
All seed plants and some pteridophytes are heterosporous.
Examples of pteridophytes that produce different kinds of spores- are
Salvinia
and
Selaginella.
Examples of heterosporous plants with seeds are pines, mango, conifers, etc.
