Solution

Neurons:

  1. They are the fundamental units of the brain and nervous system.
  2. Also known as nerve cells.
  3. Nerve impulses transmit from one neuron to another, through a junction called synapses.

Presynaptic & Postsynaptic neuron:

  1. A neuron that transmits a signal towards a synapse is known as a presynaptic neuron.
  2. A neuron that transmits a signal away from the synapse is referred to as a postsynaptic neuron.
  3. The membranes of pre- & post-synaptic neurons are separated by a space known as the synaptic cleft.
  4. The synaptic cleft is filled with fluid containing neurotransmitter receptors & various other adhesion molecules.
