Question

Does temperature affect transpiration?

Open in App
Solution

Transpiration:

  1. Transpiration is the transport of water through a plant and the evaporation of water from aerial parts such as leaves, stems, and flowers.
  2. Temperature, among other things, has an impact on plant transpiration. The rate of evaporation of water in plants increases as the temperature rises.
  3. Although plants need water, only a small fraction of the water taken up by their roots is used for growth and metabolism. The remaining 97–99.5 percent is lost by transpiration and guttation.
  4. Exudation of xylem sap drops from the tips or margins of some vascular plants' leaves, such as grasses, is known as guttation.
  5. When a liquid moves from a liquid to a gas, evaporation occurs on the surface of the liquid. It is not necessary to soak the evaporating substance.
