Question

Does photosynthesis affect transpiration?

Open in App
Solution

Photosynthesis: The method through which green plants and some other creatures produce nutrients from carbon dioxide and water using sunshine. In most cases, the green pigment chlorophyll is used in photosynthesis in plants, which produces oxygen as a byproduct.

Transpiration: Water moves through a plant during transpiration, where it evaporates from aerial parts like leaves, stems, and flowers. Although water is essential to plants, only a small portion of the water absorbed by the roots is utilized for growth and metabolism.

  1. Water is absorbed by roots.
  2. Water travels up through the plant.
  3. Water vapor is lost from the leaf pores in transpiration.
  4. When the rate of photosynthesis increases at a high light intensity, there occurs an increase in the amount of glucose in the guard cells of stomata.

Hence, photosynthesis affects transpiration.
