Formation of the Golgi bodies revolves around two existing theories. The vesicular shuttle model and the cisternae maturation model. The first model suggests that vesicles of ER (endoplasmic reticulum) are sent to the pre-existing Golgi, it cannot be produced from scratch. While the second model suggests that the ER vesicles fuse forming Golgi. In the process, proteins mature and process, creating the next Golgi compartment. However, recent studies indicate that neither of these models is very accurate.
