Question

How are photosynthesis and cellular respiration connected?

Open in App
Solution

Photosynthesis: It is the process by which plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to create oxygen and energy in the form of sugar.

Cellular respiration: Process by which organisms combine oxygen with foodstuff molecules, diverting the chemical energy in these substances into life-sustaining activities and discarding, waste products, carbon dioxide, and water.

Interrelation of photosynthesis and cellular respiration:

  1. Photosynthesis makes glucose which is used in cellular respiration for making ATP.
  2. The glucose is then transformed back into carbon dioxide, which is used in photosynthesis.
  3. It helps cells to release and store energy.
  4. It maintains the atmospheric balance of carbon dioxide and oxygen.
