While the xylem is composed of dead cells with a thick cell lining, the phloem is composed of living cells, enabling the movement of food from leaves to other plant parts. Xylem has components – xylem fibres, xylem parenchyma and tracheids while phloem has the following components – sieve tube, phloem fibres, companion cells and phloem parenchyma.
