Solution

Trace fossils

  1. Trace fossils often referred to as Ichnofossils, are geological traces of extinct organisms' behaviors and activities.
  2. When an organism leaves an impression in mud or sand, a trace fossil is created.
  3. Sediment dries out and becomes harder.
  4. A fresh sediment layer has been added on top of it.
  5. The sediment becomes fossilized as a result of cementation and compaction, which transform the sediment into rock.
  6. Please keep in mind that these fossils do not contain the organism's remains.
  7. Burrows, footprints, and nests, for example, are fossilized as proof of their activities.
