Hydroponics:

  1. The process of growing plants without using soil is called hydroponics.
  2. It is a type of horticulture and a sub-part of hydroculture in which water-based mineral nutrient solutions are used.
  3. In hydroponics, less water is used and thus it is considered a better method for growing crops.
  4. Hydroponic systems work by permitting control over certain environmental factors like pH, temperature, exposure to water & nutrients.
  5. This system provides a disease-free environment for plants, an environment free from pests.
  6. Example : Strawberries, tomatoes etc.
