Question

How does placenta develop during reproductive cycle of human female?

Open in App
Solution

Development of placenta in human female:

  1. Once the blastocyst is implanted in the uterine wall they produce finger-like projections from trophoblast and is surrounded by uterine tissues forming the placenta.
  2. This layer is separated into two parts: the cytotrophoblast layer (below) and the syncytiotrophoblast layer (above) (overlying).
  3. The syncytiotrophoblasts are a cell layer that covers the placental surface and is made up of multinucleated continuous cells.
  4. They are generated when cytotrophoblast cells unite and differentiate.
  5. This process continues as the placenta develops.
  6. As a result, the syncytiotrophoblast functions as a barrier, which is a crucial placental function.
