Question

How is ATP produced in prokaryotic cells?

Open in App
Solution

Energy production in prokaryotes:

  1. Prokaryotes are cells that don't have well-developed membranous organelles and nucleoids.
  2. As mitochondria are absent in prokaryotes ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is not synthesized in them.
  3. The prokaryotes have specific enzymes for producing ATP in the cell cytoplasm.
  4. They use the ETC (electron transport chain) system on their cell membrane to produce ATP.
