How lysosome is formed?

Open in App
Solution

Lysosome:

  1. A lysosome is a membrane-bound organelle that participates in numerous cell processes and aids in the breakdown of excess, worn-out cell parts.
  2. It is one of the cell's suicidal organelles.

Lysosome formation:

  1. Lysosomes are formed by budding off of the Golgi body, and thus the hydrolytic enzymes contained within them are produced within the endoplasmic reticulum.
  2. The catalysts are labeled with mannose-6-phosphate and transported to the Golgi body in vesicles before being incorporated into the lysosomes.
