Prebiotics:

  1. They are compounds that enhance the growth of beneficial microorganisms in the gut.
  2. Hence they can alter the composition of the gut microbiome.
  3. They act as substrates for the microorganisms in the gut microflora.
  4. Prebiotics enhance the effect of probiotics.
  5. Examples of prebiotic foods are oats, barley, and human breast milk.

Conclusion:

Therefore prebiotics should be taken as they enhance the effect of probiotics which are basically live microorganisms.
