Question

Stomata are found in which layer of the leaf?

Open in App
Solution

Stomata:

  1. In the epidermis of leaves, stomata can be observed.
  2. Stomata are necessary for gaseous exchange and water vapour loss during transpiration.
  3. The bottom side of dicot leaves either has more stomata than the upper side or has stomata just on the lower side. Hypostomatous leaves are those that have stomata solely on the lower side. Dicot leaves are able to preserve water thanks to their stomatal configuration.
  4. More stomata are present on the surfaces of plants, which thrive in conditions of increased light, decreased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations, and moisture.
  5. Stomata are often more numerous on the lower surface of a dicot leaf than they are on the upper surface of a monocot leaf.
