Question

What are the 3 parts of Darwin's theory of evolution?

Open in App
Solution

Darwin's theory of evolution:

  1. There are many aspects of darwin's theory, but 3 major parts are:
  • Gradualism: When the changes in natural populations are small and not catastrophe, we see continuous changes in phenotypes.
  1. Such continuous changes can produce major variation among species only by accumulating over many thousands to millions of years.
  2. Gradualism is the accumulation of quantitative changes that lead to qualitative change.
  • Natural selection: Some organisms survive the scarcity of resources.
  1. These organisms reproduce, passing their genes to the succeeding generations.
  2. The traits that helped these organisms to survive will be passed on to their offspring.
  3. This process is known as “natural selection.”
  • Population speciation: Speciation is the evolutionary process by which populations evolve to become distinct species.
