There are total of three stages of Embryonic development :
Stage 1: Germinal stage:

  1. This stage occurs within 1 -2 weeks after fertilization.
  2. In this stage, the development occurs from fertilization to implantation of the zygote.
  3. Fertilization occurs when a sperm fertilizes an egg and forms a zygote.
  4. After this the organism begins the cell division and growth.

Stage 2: Embryonic stage

  1. This stage occurs 3-8 weeks after fertilization.
  2. This stage begins with the third week after conception.
  3. The mass of cells are formed and becomes distinct as a human.
  4. This stage plays a very important role in the development of the Brain.
  5. After the conception of four weeks, the neural tube forms.

Stage 3 : Foetal stage

  1. This period of development begins during the 9th week and lasts until birth. During this fetal period, the prenatal develops and makes important changes in the brain.
  2. Fetal stage from 9 months until birth.
