What are the disadvantages of fermentation?

Open in App
Solution

Fermentation:

  1. Fermentation is primarily a type of anaerobic process in which energy can be released from glucose even when oxygen is not available.

The disadvantages of fermentation are as follows:

  1. Sometimes it stinks, a kind of stench that enters the cardboard of everything else in the fridge.
  2. Alcohol is great for preventing the growth of bacteria, but sometimes the yeast gets a little wild and you have to water the grass you make because it tastes as if you got it from a liquor store.
  3. Fermentation allows energy to be produced without oxygen, which can be used to make bread and some drinks and allows humans to run longer.
  4. Fermentation is an anaerobic process, so it can occur even when there is insufficient oxygen in the cell.
  5. This is what allows our skeletal muscles to continue working even after strenuous exercise which allows our muscles to use the oxygen supplied from the bloodstream more quickly.
