Sertoli cells:

  1. Sertoli cells are also known as nurse cells or mother cells of the testes.
  2. Sertoli cells are present in the seminiferous epithelium of the seminiferous tubules of the testes.
  3. These cells provide nutrition and shape to the spermatozoa and the developing germ cells.
  4. The important function of sertoli cells is to provide nutrition to the developing sperm cells.

Leydig cells:

  1. The interstitial cells located near the seminiferous tubules of the testes are known as Leydig cells.
  2. The important function of Leydig cells is to produce androgen and testosterone.
  3. These cells produce testosterone in the presence of luteinizing hormone (LH).
