What are the steps in gene expression?

Open in App
Solution

Gene expression:

  1. Gene expression is the activation or "turning on" of a gene that results in transcription and the production of mRNA and subsequently proteins.
  2. Gene expression takes place primarily through six steps.

Steps in gene expression:

  1. Chromosome changes: DNA unpacking takes place in chromosome changes.
  2. Control of transcription - regulatory proteins and control sequences.
  3. Control of RNA processing - addition of cap and tail, splicing, flow through nuclear envelope.
  4. Breakdown of mRNA in cytoplasm.
  5. Control of translation.
  6. Control after translation.
