What Are The Steps Of Neurulation?

Neurulation takes place in different ways in various regions of the body. The tail, trunk and head form the region of the neural tube in ways reflecting the inductive relationship of the prechordal plate, pharyngeal endoderm and notochord to their overlying ectoderm.

The trunk and head regions experience variants of primary Neurulation, this phenomenon can be differentiated into 4 temporally and spatially overlapping stages, which are –

  • Neural plates are formed
  • Neural plates are shaped
  • Neural plates are bent forming neural grooves
  • Neural grooves are closed forming the neural tubes
