Open in App
Solution

Blood clotting:

  1. The stopping of blood in excess during trauma or injury is known as blood clotting.
  2. During blood clotting, a mass of blood is formed by sticking together of blood platelets, proteins and cells.

Blood clotting factors are:

  1. Factor I: Fibrinogen: Adhesive protein that aids in fibrin clot formation.
  2. Factor II: Prothrombin: Presence in the activated form and the main enzyme of coagulation
  3. Factor III: Tissue thromboplastin: Lipoprotein initiator of extrinsic pathway.
  4. Factor IV: Ionized calcium: Metal cation important in coagulation.
  5. Factor V: Proaccelerin or labile factor: Activation of prothrombin to thrombin.
  6. Factor VI: Stable factor: Initiates extrinsic pathway.
  7. Factor VII: Antihemophilic factor: Intrinsic activation factor.
  8. Factor VIII: Christmas factor: Enzyme for intrinsic activation.
  9. Factor IX: Stuart – Power factor: Forms prothrombinase complex.
  10. Factor X: Plasma thrombin antecedent: Activates intrinsic activator.
  11. Factor XI: Hegman factor: Activates antihemophilic factor.
  12. Factor XII: Fibrin stabilising factor: Cross links fibrin clot.
