Meiosis:

  2. Daughter cells produced have the half chromosome as the original cell.
  3. The purpose of meiosis is the production of gametes called sex cells.

Functions of meiosis:

  1. During meiosis, one cell in an organism's reproductive system divides twice to form four haploid cells.
  2. In males these gametes become sperm.
  3. In females, only one of these four new cells becomes an egg.
  4. The rest of the cells dissolve back into the organisms or are never produced at all.
