Solution

Polychaetes:

  1. These are a subclass of the Class Annelida.
  2. They include worms that have a segmented body with head-bearing mouth parts and an anal segment.
  3. Nereis sp. belongs to the subclass of Polychaeta worms. They have setae and parapodia present for locomotion.
  4. Every segment of their body bears on either side a fleshy, flat, hollow, and vertical flap-like outgrowth called parapodia.
  5. Parapodia are absent at the peristomium and the anal segment.
  6. Slow creeping movements of Nereis sp. take place by the action of parapodia only.
