Question

What does troponin do in the resting state?

Open in App
Solution

Troponin:

  1. Troponin is one of the proteins present in the heart muscle.
  2. Troponin is found in blood only when the heart muscles get damaged.
  3. Troponin has subunits such as TnC, TnI, and TnT, each playing a specific function.
  4. Under resting intracellular levels of calcium, tropomyosin covers the active sites on actin to which myosin binds in order to generate force.
  5. Troponin is the sarcomeric Ca2+ regulator for striated muscle contraction.
  6. Tn when binds with Ca2+ transmits information through structural changes throughout the actin-tropomyosin filaments, activating myosin ATPase activity and muscle contraction.
