What Function Do Ribosomes Serve in Polypeptide Synthesis?

Ribosomes are the site of protein synthesis. Ribosomes hold mRNA and tRNA together. The small subunit binds to mRNA template first and then the large subunit binds. It contains active sites to hold tRNA with the growing polypeptide chain and the incoming tRNA bound to an amino acid. The rRNA of the ribosome acts as a ribozyme and catalyses protein synthesis.
