Krebs cycle:

  1. Krebs cycle is also known as the TCA cycle i.e. tricarboxylic acid cycle or citric acid cycle.
  2. It is a series of enzyme-catalyzed reactions that occur in the matrix of mitochondria.
  3. During the Krebs cycle, acetyl CoA is oxidized to carbon dioxide.
  4. Also, coenzymes are reduced to generate ATP in the electron transport chain.
  5. During the Krebs cycle, glucose is completely oxidized.
  6. The significance of the Krebs cycle is that it is the final pathway for the oxidation of glucose, fats, and amino acids.
