Question

What hormone decreases gastric motility?

Open in App
Solution

Gastric motility:

  1. Gastric motility is the movement of food in the digestive tract.
  2. Glucagon is responsible for decreasing gastric mobility.
  3. Glucagon slows gastric emptying and inhibits peristalsis (gastric motility) throughout the digestive (gastrointestinal) tract.
  4. The incretin glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is best recognized for increasing insulin secretion in response to a meal.
  5. Additionally, GLP-1 controls various GI processes.
  6. It lessens GI transit, motility, gastric wall tone, and gastric acid secretion.
  7. In humans, the insulinotropic hormone glucagon-like peptide-1-(7—36) amide (GLP-1) reduces stomach emptying and acid secretion.
