Question

What hormone slows stomach emptying?

Open in App
Solution

Cholecystokinin:

  1. Cholecystokinin slows down the emptying of food from the stomach.
  2. Additionally, it also stimulates the production of bile.
  3. Fat such as Oleate in meals stimulates cholecystokinin secretion in the duodenum.
  4. Cholecystokinin secretion inhibits antral mobility and delays gastric emptying.
  5. Glucagon is responsible for decreasing gastric mobility.
  6. Glucagon hormone decreases the secretion of gastric acid.
  7. Gastric acid is necessary for the digestion processing of food, so less secretion of gastric acid lowers the gastric mobility.
  8. Gastric mobility is also the reason for slowing the stomach emptying process.
