Placenta develops in the time of pregnancy in the uterus of the mother. It nourishes the embryo with oxygen and nutrition. Furthermore, it eliminates wastes from the blood of the fetus. The placenta firmly attaches itself to the walls of the uterus so that the umbilical cord could take shape.
