Plectenchyma is the network of closely or loosely arranged interwoven networks of hyphae in fungi.

Types of Plectenchyma:

Prosenchyma:

  1. In this, the hyphae are interwoven loosely and the individuality of the fungal hyphae is not lost.
  2. These are starch-containing parenchymal cells whose cell walls are lined by lignin.
  3. It is responsible for making the plant more rigid.

Pseudoparenchyma:

  1. In this, the hyphae are compactly interwoven and it resembles the parenchymatous tissue of the higher plants.
  2. Present in toadstools and mushrooms.
