What Is the Difference Between DNA Damage and Mutation?

Mutation refers to the change in the sequence of base pairs of DNA, whereas DNA damage causes a change in the chemical structure of DNA and halts replication process. DNA damage is repaired by cellular mechanisms, those which do not get repaired accumulate and result in ageing. DNA mutation changes the information coded by DNA and may result in abnormal or non-functional proteins. It passes to the next generation.
