Function of vasopressin:

  1. Vasopressin is a pituitary hormone that is also known as the antidiuretic hormone (ADH).
  2. It is synthesized in the hypothalamus whereas it is secreted from the posterior pituitary gland.
  3. Its primary function is to promote the water reabsorption in the renal tubule of kidneys.
  4. It promotes the retention of water by the kidneys, thus decreasing water loss and dehydration.
  5. It is also capable of increasing the blood pressure as it constricts the blood vessels i.e. vasoconstriction.
