Golgi apparatus:

  1. Golgi apparatus is also known as Golgi body or Golgi complex.
  2. It is found in eukaryotic cells present just beside the nucleus.
  3. It is referred as post office of the cell.
  4. It in the transportation of lipids and in the formation of lysosomes.
  5. It produces sphingomyelin, glycolipids, complex polysaccharide required for making of the cell wall.

Structure of Golgi apparatus:

  1. Golgi apparatus is a membrane-bound cell organelle found in the cytoplasm adjacent to the endoplasmic reticulum.
  2. It has 5 to 8 series of compartments known as cisternae.
  3. Cisternae are a flat, disk-like, stacked pouches which make up the Golgi bodies.
  4. It has vesicles that are filled with fluid and are arranged parallel to each other.
  5. These vesicles are connected to the membranes of endoplasmic reticulum.
