Solution

Importance of breathing:

  1. The process of breathing is very much connected to the process of release of energy from food.
  2. This process of exchange of O2 from the atmosphere with CO2 produced by the cells is called breathing.
  3. Breathing involves two stages. Inspiration during which atmospheric air is drawn in and expiration by which the alveolar air is released out.
  4. Oxygen aids in breaking down of food material during respiration and provides energy for different bodily functions to occur.
  5. The volume of air involved in breathing movements can be estimated by using a spirometer which helps in the clinical assessment of pulmonary functions.
  6. All the cells in the body require oxygen to survive and also need to expel metabolic waste products from the body (CO2).
  7. A healthy man can inspire or expire approximately 6000 to 8000 mL of air per minute.
  8. Breathing is an essential process in humans for survival.
