Uterus:

  1. A uterus also called the womb, is a muscular, inverted pear-shaped organ of the female reproductive system between the bladder and the rectum.
  2. The walls of the uterus consist of three layers- the inner glandular layer, the middle thick layer, and the outer thin layer.
  3. These three layers are maintained by ligaments which are attached to the pelvic wall which then opens into the vagina from a narrow cervix.

The function of the uterus:

The main function of the uterus is to provide nourishment and a conducive environment for the developing foetus until it is developed and delivered.
