Genetic disorder:

  1. A condition in which the DNA sequence changes partly or wholly is known as genetic disorder.
  2. The most common genetic disease in the world is sickle cell anemia.

Sickle cell anemia:

  1. Sickle cell anemia is caused due to the substitution of Glutamic acid with Valine.
  2. It occurs at the sixth position of the beta-globin chain of the hemoglobin molecule.
  3. It causes the red blood cells(RBC) to change their shape from biconcave discs to elongated sickle-like structures.
  4. This causes RBCs(sickle-shaped) to die early and it causes a shortage of RBCs(anemia).
  5. Sickle cell anemia is an autosomal recessive disease.
