Question

What is the result of mitosis and cytokinesis?

Open in App
Solution

Mitosis :

  1. It is the part of the cell cycle in which the cell undergoes replication of chromosomes and segregates them into two identical nuclei.
  2. Mitosis takes place for the growth of cells and to replace the damaged cells.
  3. Cell division from mitosis gives identical cells in which the chromosome number is maintained.
  4. So, mitosis is also known as equational division.

Cytokinesis:

  1. This physical process takes place after the mitosis process in which parent cells are split into two daughter cells through division cytoplasm.
  2. During cytokinesis, the cell membrane pinches in at the cell equator, forming a cleft called the cleavage furrow which is an indication of cleavage progression.
  3. Cytokinesis takes place in both mitosis and meiosis.

Result: Hence, the formation of two daughter cells that are identical to parental cells is the result of mitosis and cytokinesis.
