Question

What is the sandwich ELISA?

Open in App
Solution

Sandwich ELISA:

  1. A sandwich ELISA measures antigen between two layers of antibodies.
  2. Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISAs) combine the specificity of antibodies with the sensitivity of simple enzyme assays.
  3. One of the most useful immunoassays is the two-antibody sandwich ELISA which is used to find the antigen concentration in unknown samples.
  4. It is accurate and fast.
  5. If a purified antigen standard is present, then the assay can determine the absolute quantity of antigens in the sample provided.
  6. This ELISA needs two antibodies that bind to epitopes that do not overlap on antigens.
