What is the structure and function of the Golgi body?

Open in App
Solution

Golgi Body:

  1. The Golgi apparatus, also known as the Golgi complex, Golgi body, or simply the Golgi, is present in the majority of eukaryotic cells.
  2. Before the vesicles are transported to their destination, it loads proteins into membrane-bound vesicles inside the cell.
  3. It is a component of the endomembrane system in the cytoplasm.
  4. Golgi apparatus has the following functions:
  1. It packages and transports materials made nearby the ER to a variety of targets both inside and outside the cell.
  2. Its duties include product storage, alteration, and packing.
  3. From simple sugars, complex sugars are produced.

Golgi Body Structure:

  1. A crucial intracellular membrane organelle for protein and lipid trafficking and modification is the Golgi apparatus.
  2. Its basic form is a stack of flat, closely spaced cisternae.
  3. Numerous stacks that are laterally joined to form a ribbon are localized in the pericentriolar area of mammalian cells.
