Question

What Proteins Contribute Towards The Striated Appearance Of Myofibrils?

Open in App
Solution

Myofibrils:

  1. The myofibril appears striated as they are composed of actin and myosin filaments, repeated in units called sarcomere, which is the basic functional unit of the muscle fiber.
  2. The striated appearance of the myofibrils is a result of the distribution pattern of proteins myosin and actin.
  3. The sarcomere is responsible for the striated appearance of muscle.
  4. The actin is a thin filament and myosin is a thick filament.
  5. A muscle fascicle is a bundle of skeletal muscle fibers surrounded by perimysium.
  6. Troponin is a globular protein complex involved in muscle contraction. It occurs with tropomyosin in the thin filament of muscle fiber.
  7. Meromyosin is a subunit of myosin, the thick filament.
