Question

Where does oxidative phosphorylation of ADP occur?

Open in App
Solution

Oxidative phosphorylation:

  1. Oxidative phosphorylation, also known as the Electron Transport Chain or ETC, is a metabolic route in which nutrients are oxidized by enzymes, releasing molecular oxygen's chemical energy, which may be utilized to make adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
  2. In the mitochondria, ADP is oxidatively phosphorylated.
  3. Most eukaryotes and practically all aerobic creatures carry out oxidative phosphorylation within their mitochondria.
  4. The transfer of electrons from electron donors to electron acceptors, such as oxygen, occurs during the oxidative phosphorylation process when redox reactions occur.
  5. ATP is created as a result of energy stored in the comparatively weak double bond of oxygen during redox reactions.
