Which hormone decreases water loss through diuresis?

Open in App
Solution

Diuresis:

Diuresis is a condition in which the kidneys filter an excessive amount of fluid from the body.

Vasopressin:

  1. It is also called as anti-diuretic hormone (ADH).
  2. The hypothalamus produces vasopressin, which is then transmitted axonally to the neurohypophysis ( posterior pituitary gland).
  3. Vasopressin acts primarily on the kidney.
  4. It increases distal tubule resorption of water and electrolytes, lowering water loss through urine (diuresis).
