Solution

Gymnosperms have both archegonia and ovule such as Cycas.

Cycas :

  1. Cycas is an evergreen perennial plant. It is from the family Cycadaceae.
  2. It forms microsporophylls and megasporophylls for reproduction.
  3. It is a gymnosperm plant and has both archegonia and ovule.
  4. It is one of several species used for the production of sago and ornamental plant.
  5. Archegonia is the female reproductive organ in ferns and mosses.
  6. An archegonia also occurs in some gymnosperms, e.g., cycads and conifers.
  7. It is a flask-shaped structure, consisting of a neck, with one or more layers of cells, a swollen base, and the center, which contains the egg.
  8. Neck-canal cells, located above the egg, disappear as the archegonia mature, thus producing a passage for the entry of the sperm.
  9. The sperm are produced in the corresponding male reproductive organ, the antheridium.
