Solution

Polymorphism:

  1. Polymorphism is the variation in individuals at the genetic level.
  2. They are inheritable mutations at a high frequency.
  3. They have a very crucial role in speciation and evolution.
  4. In an individual, DNA from every tissue shows the same level of polymorphism.
  5. They are inherited from parents to offspring so it is useful in paternity tests.

DNA fingerprinting:

  1. It is a quick way to analyze the differences in DNA sequences of 2 individuals.
  2. It involves the identification of differences in repetitive DNA which is separated from the bulk genomic DNA.
  3. The peak formed during centrifugation is called satellite DNA,
  4. The high degree of polymorphism shown by the satellite DNA forms the basis of DNA fingerprinting.
